Starting the IDEA League program means juggling systems across three universities. Here are a few practical tips that make daily life easier from the beginning.
All three universities (TU Delft, ETH Zürich, and RWTH Aachen) use their own email systems. If you don’t want to constantly switch between webmail portals, you can combine everything into one place using a third-party email client like Mozilla Thunderbird. Thunderbird is free, open-source, and works on Windows, macOS, and Linux.
Download and install Thunderbird: Install it from the official website above.
Open Thunderbird → Set up an existing email account
On first launch, you’ll see an option to add an account. If not, go to:
Account Settings → Account Actions → Add Mail Account
Enter your university email details: Name, full university email address, password
Let Thunderbird auto-detect settings: Thunderbird will usually find the correct IMAP/SMTP settings automatically.
Choose IMAP (recommended): Select IMAP instead of POP3 so your emails stay synced across devices.
Click “Done”
Repeat this process for:
You’ll now see all inboxes in one sidebar and can manage everything from a single app.
This wiki is a living document.
